Re-opening on May 1 is the Whitney Museum of American Art in its new downtown digs in New York
City. Designed by Renzo Piano the
famed architect the megalith in Manhattan’s meatpacking District is going to
soon be the house of curation that is new: America is Hard to See that is an
assemblage from the permanent collections of the museum.
Represented in the exhibit of 600 works are about 400
artists and the dates of none of the works are further than 1900. “The most
ambitious display of Whitney’s collection to date” is what it is being called
by the museum.
The creator of a lot of paintings Michael Chini spoke about the new home of the museum’s
dynamism recently.

He stated that he had a fascination with the idea of the
museum of art as an institution, as a place that was art energy-loaded, but
which was somewhat in separation from the works that were inside it. His desire
was to have Whitney painted as a way of connection with what was going to be on
display there prior to its eventual opening – sort of like in the present
history was being written. He had spent half a day having the linen painted
with oil in a room facing the south at the Standard High Line hotel. It had
been an epic view, which had blue skies that were pure and sunlight that was
intense reflected off the façade of glass and had the room lit like flash
photography. This modern piece of architecture was made by it to looks almost
nuclear.
