Everyone who flies by economy already knows that sleep is
elusive. There is just no place that your head can be rested. Perhaps you might
have seen people who have attempted to rest their heads on the tray table?
Perhaps you might have also tried. Or using the shoulder of the person to sleep
on?
This is not the way it is supposed to be. And if a patent
that was filed recently by the manufacturer and designer of aircrafts Boeing
really gets to be produced.
Referred to as the Transport
Upright Vehicle Support System the patent was filed late in March. There is
not a doubt that when it eventually gets manufactured a name that is much more
snazzier would have come up by Boeing.
This is how it would work: The “upright sleep system incorporates
a head cushion having a face relief ... with a hinge support structure for
angular adjustments, sleeves that open in front to support the passenger’s arms
and a chest cushion on the back of the device. The cushion receives the
passenger’s chest in a forward leaning position. The head cushion is deployable
from a backpack and the chest cushion is integrated into the back of the
backpack.”
A way to think of it that is easier is this: it is very similar to
sitting on one of those chairs for massaging in the salon for nails where you
use a support bard for leaning with an opening for a face.

For the next generation of airplanes what is the likelihood that
the Transport Upright Support System would be integrated by Boeing? There is no
comment yet from the company, but ABC News was informed by PatentYogi’s
managing director Deepak Gupta that the invention appeared feasible really. Companies
into air travel would provide this service to customers at an additional cost. Covers
that are based on tissues could be used to cater for concerns on hygiene.
“Cuddle seats” are what Gupta calls them.
A
video was created by him on how the system could work in actual flight. You
can view it on YouTube
or in the above player.
