A plane which is Northern Lights-Themed gets launched by Icelandair

Photo: icelandair.us

Have you ever dreamt of going to Iceland to see the Northern Lights? Well, thanks to the new aurora borealis-themed Hekla Aurora plane of Icelandair you can now do so even without having to touch down in Reykjavik. Vibrant greens and blues were used in painting the exterior while the main cabin inside is illuminated with LEDs that mimic the natural light show of the sky. This is all a part of the #MyStopover campaign of the airline that permits passengers who are on their way from or to Europe to lay over for up to week in Reykjavik. Presently, there are no plans for introducing more themed planes, which means that it is a matter of luck for now. In order to find out if you could be on the Hekla Aurora visit this dedicated website.

The Making of Hekla Aurora can be watched below:

In other news on Icelandair: recently an application was filed with the government of the United States by the carrier to be a partner on codeshare with JetBlue. This would result in connections that are easy when you fly between the two airlines (a combination of luggage transfers, ticketing), most especially when travelling to Europe via Reykjavik or to Reykjavik via JFK and Boston.

For your trips this summer these are the Top Ten Destinations

When it comes to booking for your summer vacation is it ever really too early?
I do not think so. After enduring the winter it would not come as a surprise that a lot of people in America and elsewhere have started to make their plans to travel when the summer vacations come.
Based on data from Orbitz.com, the top spot that is being retained as the number one destination for travel this summer is still Las Vegas. International destinations like Riviera Maya and London have now joined it as well.
Paris is also showing the greatest savings this summer, even though it has usually been thought to be off the table for those that are budget-conscious. According to the booking website, it is down by 18 percent for airfare and 16 percent in hotel.
The top 10 destinations for summer based on the bookings for hotels that were made on Orbitz.com from June 1 – August 31, 2015 are revealed by the Orbitz Summer Insider Index. Presently, these destinations are the top ones:
1. Las Vegas, Nev.

Daydreaming of Münich, Germany

I know how it can be. You are busy and stressed out at your desk and the whole day appears to be continuously going on without an end in sight. Wandering is what your mind begins to do – initially to “any other place but here,” and then to lands faraway and exotic where your stress and problems of everyday in the presence of true paradise melt. On a regular basis, I am going to send a picture to you of a place that I am daydreaming of so that we can all together embark on a mental vacation.
Today, let us visit…

…Munich! I am having daydreams of spending this upcoming weekend in this Bavarian city that is extremely beautiful. By exploring the inner city we are going to get our history fix. And to get the best out of the experience, we must endeavour to stop by the Residenz Palace, Mairenplatz square, and the iconic Frauenkirche cathedral. Indeed, it is not going to be too long before we discover that we are already inside a hall of beer where we can get our bellies filled up with a Maß or two of Hofbräu and Weißwurst.

The TEN countries that are the Happiest on Earth

Which is the happiest country? Perhaps we should not be surprised that it is the one which consumes the highest amount of chocolate.

The World Happiness Report results for this year have been released – and the top spot in the ranking has been scored by Switzerland. The basis for the report are data collated from 158 countries which considers six factors: healthy life expectancy, freedom, social support, generosity, absence of corruption, and GDP per capita. The United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network released the report.

The ten countries which are the happiest were discovered to be mainly in Europe:

     1.      Switzerland
     2.      Iceland
     3.      Denmark
     4.      Norway
     5.      Canada
     6.      Finland
     7.      The Netherlands
     8.      Sweden
     9.      New Zealand
    10. Australia

And for a look that is more global of the countries which are the happiest, study this map which is contained in the report:

The happiness factor was judged on a scale of 0 to 10 just as it has been in previous reports, where the mean global number was a total of 5.1. for instance, Switzerland had a number of 7.587, whereas the United States which in the ranking came in at No.15 has a 7.119. In 2012, the ranking of the US was 11th.
Of all the included countries in the ranking, the last was Togo. The countries that were the bottom ten in the ranking were:
     1.      Togo (last in the ranking)
     2.    Burundi
     3.    Syria
     4.    Benin
     5.     Rwanda
     6.    Afghanistan
     7.     Burkina Faso
     8.    Ivory Coast
     9.    Guinea
     10.                        Chad

The writers of the report gave a note that some of the common sources of contentment which was true among the countries that are the happiest were the ability to trust your neighbours, as well as those in position at government. Another marker was being surrounded by persons who were empathic to other people (which can be revealed by random and different acts of kindness like returning a wallet that was lost or becoming a volunteer in a local charity.
A co-editor for the report and a professor from the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research and the University of British Colombia John F. Helliwell revealed in a statement that as advancement is made in the science of happiness they were approaching the heart of those factors which are a definition of life for citizens. They were encouraged that around the world more and more governments are listening and using policies to respond which put first welfare and well-being. Countries with institutional and social capital that were strong were not only supporting greater well-being and welfare but to economic and social crises were much more resilient.
